Nonstop Music Mixes for Any Fast-Paced Workout
"The True Point of Beginning" (141 BPM)
"The True Point of Beginning" is a surveyor's term; you find it on official documents measuring land parcels. I've always loved the phrase; in the midst of endless sentences of dry measurements it leaps out at me as startlingly poetic (it sounds like an Ann Tyler novel title, dunnit?). For this first mix of the new year, I wanted something that felt driven, pushing forward, and full of promise by the end.
Beatport Playlist
The Original, High-Quality, Non-Mixed Tracks Featured in Podrunner
2008's first Podrunner playlist on Beatport.com opens with a beautiful melodic Buick remix of Junkie XL's "Mushroom," moves briefly to a fun house track I've been looking to drop for a while now, DJ Paulo's "Clean It Up (Mendo Remix), then slots into an intensifying and slightly dark progressive house groove from Kwitek & Morganstern's "Black Ocean (Kintar Remix)" through Deep Voices' "Lilly." The last four tracks lift us into daylight, ending on an upbeat note with Human Adams' "Hope."
Groovelectric
Welcome to the New Old Funk
Groovelectric was last seen on the crowded floor of the Los Angeles Sports Arena on December 31 attempting to beat the world lightstick-juggling record while breathing fire and gargling jello shooters. There's an ugly rumor that Groovelectric got closing DJ Ferry Corsten so drunk that he actually played U2 and Madonna songs, but it isn't true. Ferry Corsten did that all by himself.

A while back people saw a pic of me wearing a Groovelectric hoodie on my Burning Man photo album and started asking how come they couldn't get one? Well, now ya can — but only till January 12! We're doing a limited run of high-quality Hanes fleecy-interior Groovelectric hoodies that will ship January 23. Don't miss out, cuz who knows when — or if! — we'll print more of these.
Running with the Pack
The Yahoo Podrunner Group
Besides being a great resource for Podrunner listeners to trade tips & information, share links, look for running buddies, and ask each other what the hell Steve Boyett was talking about in that last Run Time newsletter, the Yahoo Podrunner Group is also a very useful source of information for those of you who've been frustrated about getting hold of Podrunner mixes from before November 1, 2007.
Looking Forward, Thinking Back
I hope you all had a good New Year! Mine was fantastic. My wife and I met up with listeners Jeff and Bonnie, whom I met one amazing night at Burning Man last year, as well as podcaster KFC of SkydiverGirls & her crew, and had a terrific evening dancing nonstop to Digweed & Sasha at Together as One in Los Angeles. It took me about two days to recover.
Most people I know aren't too sad that 2007 is gone. And most people I know are also very optimistic about 2008. I feel lucky that my year was pretty good, and even more excited because 2008 has a lot in store. February 1 we'll be launching Podrunner: Intervals. Around that time, knock on wood, we'll also launch a dedicated Podrunner website. About the same time we'll also have new sponsorship that I'm very excited about. Podrunner entered 2008 at #2 on iTunes music and #40 overall -- not bad! Groovelectric, on the other hand, disappeared from the top 100 music charts for the first time in over a year. My bad for putting up a 110 megabyte, two-hour mix. :) We're not worried, though. Somehow Groovelectric chugs along. The groove abides.
Thanks for your downloads and support as we enter a year that looks very promising.
